Company claims patent rights over XML

A little-known company named Scientigo claims to hold patents which XML infringes upon, and intends to "monetize" this claim -- in other words, to take advantage of software patent law to legally extort huge amounts of money from the world.

According to the article on cnet.com, patent lawyer Bruce Sunstein regards Scientigo's patent claims as dubious, since prior art exists in SGML and in earlier concepts dating back to the 1960's.
