Massachusetts considering open standards

The Massachusetts government is considering moving toward open standards for its documents. A public review draft document (PDF) is available for download and comment till September 9. Features include heavy reliance on XML, as opposed to unpublished and changing vendor formats.

This is a surprisingly impressive move, considering where it's coming from. Sending in comments to Standards@state.ma.us (the address is mentioned on the web page, but not in the PDF itself) may help to make this happen, and to correct any problems there might be in the proposal.
